Africa Health ExCon 2025 brought together an extraordinary assembly of healthcare leaders, policymakers, manufacturers, and innovators committed to transforming Africa’s healthcare landscape. With a sharp focus on vaccine manufacturing, the event spotlighted strategic solutions and partnerships shaping a future of health sovereignty on the continent.
One of the major themes at the event was strengthening Africa’s capacity for local vaccine production. From biotechnology advancements to regulatory policy discussions, sessions featured institutions such as: Africa CDC, Biovac Institute (South Africa), Gennvax Pharmaceuticals Ltd. (Egypt), BVC (Egypt)
These organizations shared critical insights on overcoming barriers and creating sustainable vaccine manufacturing hubs across Africa.
Global NGOs including Gavi, PATH, and The Vaccine Alliance Africa Initiative underscored their ongoing commitment to equitable vaccine access, while stressing the need for multi-sectoral partnerships to support supply chain, funding, and technological innovation.
Accelerating Africa’s Health Equity Agenda
The Vaccine Access Initiative (VAI)—a subsidiary of Microhaem Scientifics (MHS)—was a key contributor at the event. Under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Alexzander A. A. Asea, VAI took part in high-level policy forums, technical workshops, and regional collaboration meetings focused on vaccine equity and innovation.
Our engagements centered on: Innovative biomanufacturing approaches, Policy frameworks for vaccine access, strengthening resilience in healthcare systems
Influential Conversations
Our CEO, Prof. Dr. Asea, held impactful meetings with:
Gennvax Pharmaceuticals Ltd., is a prominent Egyptian biotech company focused on biologics and vaccine development. Their insights into biomanufacturing challenges and opportunities in North Africa enriched discussions on regional vaccine production capacity.
achyhealth Inc., explores how AI-driven tools can revolutionize rural vaccine delivery and close health equity gaps. Prof. Dr. Alexzander Asea and Dr. Amr Fawzy Ahmed, CEO of Tachyhealth Inc., participated in a compelling dialogue on leveraging AI-driven healthcare solutions to enhance rural health services. Emphasizing the transformative potential of digital tools, Dr. Ahmed highlighted how technology can bridge healthcare gaps, improve vaccine delivery, and support health system resilience in underserved areas.
These dialogues reaffirmed VAI’s commitment to transforming vaccine development and access through technology, partnerships, and African-led innovation.
A defining moment at the ExCon was VAI’s engagement with Dr. Karim Darwish, Commercial Director of Vaccine Biotechnology City (VBC). Located in Egypt, VBC is spearheading cutting-edge vaccine research and local production, including: Measles, Rubella, Rotavirus, Pneumococcal Conjugate Vaccine (PCV13), Human Papillomavirus (HPV2).
Why This Matters for Uganda
This collaboration offers immense potential for Uganda’s health sovereignty:
Affordable, locally-produced vaccines, Transfer of biomanufacturing technology, Employment & biotech ecosystem growth, Pandemic preparedness & health security, Reduced import dependency.
The partnership aligns perfectly with VAI’s mission: building a self-sufficient vaccine ecosystem in Uganda and supporting Africa’s broader agenda of health sovereignty.
